In-Vitro Fertilization - Embryo Transfer
(IVF-ET)
STEP 3 - IN-VITRO FERTILIZATION/ ICSI
At FSAC, the eggs which are removed are immediately handed to the embryologist in the IVF
laboratory. Unlike other programs, the eggs are not transported by incubator or courier to the IVF
laboratory, which may affect egg quality. The eggs remain in this carefully controlled environment for approximately
2 to 6 hours.
Sperm is then added to the eggs to allow for fertilization. An intimate, comfortable,
private room is designed to aid men/ couples in the collection of sperm samples. The sperm sample is usually obtained on the day of the egg collection. The eggs can be fertilized by either
"natural" fertilization, where approximately 50,000 to 100,000 motile sperm are placed around each egg, or by single sperm injection
(intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI). FSAC has had excellent results with this technique using state-of-the-art experts in this area of reproductive medicine. After approximately one day, the eggs are checked for fertilization.
