Starting or growing your family can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life, but for some, the path to parenthood is filled with challenges. At Fertility & Surgical Associates of California, we understand how important success is for hopeful parents-to-be, which is why we are committed to providing the highest level of care on your fertility journey.
If you are considering in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment in Santa Monica, California, our team is here to support you.
What Is IVF?
IVF is a widely-recognized fertility treatment that involves fertilizing an egg with sperm outside the body. This form of assisted reproductive technology (ART) can make pregnancy possible for those struggling with infertility, as well as for LGBTQ+ couples and individuals and single parents by choice.
What Can I Expect During the IVF Process?
Every treatment at Fertility & Surgical Associates of California begins with a thorough fertility assessment. We use this consultation to get to know you, recommend fertility testing, and create a treatment plan designed to meet your needs.
To start your IVF cycle, you will undergo ovarian stimulation using self-administered hormone medications to increase egg production, followed by an outpatient egg retrieval procedure under light anesthesia.
Once retrieved, we fertilize the eggs in our lab with sperm, and the best day-5 embryo is selected for transfer back into the uterus. After embryo transfer, we will use an ultrasound and blood tests to confirm the pregnancy around two weeks later.
We understand that this can be one of the most difficult points for you as it is a waiting period. There are ways to help pass the time and we’re happy to share resources with you. We do advise you to avoid taking an over-the-counter pregnancy test as it can give you a false result.
Is IVF Right for My Family?
IVF is a highly effective treatment for individuals and couples who are facing various fertility challenges. Our fertility specialists may recommend IVF as a fertility treatment for:
- Women who are experiencing age related fertility challenges
- Male factor infertility
- Women with blocked fallopian tubes
- Women with endometriosis or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Women with low ovarian reserve
- Same-sex couples seeking to build their families
- Single individuals wanting to have children
- Women with a history of recurrent miscarriages
Before we start the IVF journey, it’s crucial to schedule an initial consultation with our specialists. This way, we can create a personalized treatment plan that maximizes your chances of success and offers you the opportunity to speak directly with a fertility specialist.
